The whole school was treated to a spectacular performance of 'Beauty & The Beast' as a reward for filling the whole school ARC Values Jar in the hall. The children enjoyed the acting, singing, dancing and lots of laughs!

We are delighted that SCC and Darcy’s Construction are almost ready to hand over Stage 1 of the brand new Resource Base for Deaf Children (Owls Base) building extension to us. Stage 1 is the building, contents and the external pathway. We do not have a firm date but it should be in the next week or so!
Stage 2 - the grounds/trees/grass/woodchip path etc - will handover at a later date as the grounds need time to be redeveloped and grow. This means the large hoarding/wall will remain in place for a good few months yet.

We have to start the half term by sharing some very sad news that one of our long serving governors, Michael Clarke, passed away last week, after a long battle with cancer.
Mike had been a governor at Newlands since autumn 2012 and was a true ‘friend to Newlands’; as well as stepping up to be the Chair of Governors for some years when I first became the Headteacher here. He was a favourite smiling face at many Merit assemblies and school events during that time - infamous for shaking hands with children as they queued up to go in!
I have passed on our condolences on behalf of the school and governors to his family. We are currently thinking about how we can mark his service to Newlands and honour his memory with the children in the long term and will share this information once decided.
Thank you to all of the parents & carers who recently completed our questionnaire to gather your views during parents evenings. The outcomes have now been collated and we are delighted that at least 96% of parents and carers are pleased with all areas of the school's work, with some having 100% positive feedback! What fun we having down here! We cannot believe that tomorrow is the last day and we will all be back at home by the end of the school day!
Today we have taken on orienteering, the dreaded Trapeze and Leap of Faith, Giant Swing, Abseiling Towers and more Aeroball.
We even managed to squeeze in a visit to the beach (down hundreds of steps) and enjoyed time exploring the Jurassic Coast and searching for fossils and lucky stones.
We have two more activities to look forward to in the morning and a final chance to test ourselves to the limits and achieve new goals.
See you all tomorrow.
After a great night's sleep, another action packed day followed despite the wind and rain! We have achieved great things and we think everyone at school and home would be so proud of us!
Many of us have been scaling great heights again, learning to abseil, mastering archery and even rifle shooting. Sadly our traditional beach walk had to be cancelled this afternoon (due to the poor weather) but we enjoyed an afternoon of learning about geographical features through group research; followed by class circle times. We have so many highlights and proud moments to share already.
Tonight, it's quiz night!
