Music at Newlands Primary School

Intent

At Newlands Primary School it is our intent to make music a positive and enjoyable learning experience for all. We aim to make music more accessible and create opportunities for children to experience it in diverse settings and situations, both in and out of the classroom. Through listening, singing, playing, evaluating and composing, children are able to gain a strong understanding of what music really is and

appreciate different genres.

At Newlands, we recognise that music plays an important part in the children’s everyday lives, as it can be a fuel for productivity and improvement in mood - whether through lessons, assemblies, concerts or extra-curricular activities. The children look forward to performing every year, whether in the Harvest Festival in Early Years, The Nativity in KS1 or the KS2 choir. As pupils progress in their music journey at Newlands, we hope their creativity, curiosity and love for music grows. We aim to give them a strong sense of achievement and the opportunity to build their confidence and showcase their talent as musicians.

This year we are very excited to have partnered with Discover The Music! It will allow us to bring even more enjoyment, expertise and opportunities into the classroom - through the learning of fun and exciting instruments such as the ukulele, guitar and drums
