Article 23: (children with a disability) A child with a disability has the right to live a full and decent life with dignity and, as far as possible, independence and to play an active part in the community. Governments must do all they can to support disabled children and their families.
Article 24: (health and health services) Every child has the right to the best possible health.
Inclusion is a key objective at Newlands Primary School. Inclusion is about valuing all children and fostering a climate that is responsive to their individual need. We believe that good learning and teaching is a universal entitlement, and that inclusive teaching strategies are embedded in every classroom. Every teacher is a teacher of every child including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) is Mrs Welch. She can be contacted via the school office for queries or to arrange appointments to discuss your child. Mrs Welch is also available during whole school parents evenings.
Southampton City Council Resource Base for Deaf Children
Newlands is the home of Southampton City Council's Specialist Resource Base for Deaf Children.
We are lucky to have a new-build extension to provide a bespoke base with specialist facilities and staff. All admissions to the base come via the Southampton City Council SEND Team.
