• Christmas Bazaar raises £713.27

  A wonderful festive evening was had yesterday by all who attended the Christmas Bazaar.  So many treats on offer - from the Newlands Christmas Choir and Elves wrapping presents to glitter tattoos and candyfloss!  The fudge cake was very popular too!

   

  Congratulations to all those that won one of the amazing Christmas Hampers!    

• Tree Makers have tea with the Mayor

  What a wonderful experience for the ten 'tree creators', today!

   

  As winners of the mayor's Christmas Tree Competition, we were invited to a tour of the Mayor's Offices, followed by lunch. Our tree looked beautiful in front of the windows and the ten creators of  'Don't Waste It - Create With It', were very proud.

   

  It was a thrilling experience.

  

• Newland's Christmas Choir Sings at St Peter's Church

  Last night, our pupils sang to a packed audience at St Peter's Church. They were pupils from across Key Stage 2 who have been practicing for many weeks now with Mr Day, Mrs Orton and Miss Chestnutt.

   

  They sang a range of Christmas carols and songs to the appreciation of all who attended. It really felt like the start of Christmas for us all.

   

  There will be another chance to hear the Christmas Choir perform on Thursday at the school's Christmas Bazaar.

• Newlands wins first prize in Christmas Tree competition

  Newlands Primary have entered the annual Southampton schools Christmas tree competition - AND HAVE WON FIRST PRIZE!!

  This year our tree addressed the issues surrounding plastic pollution in our seas.

  Mrs Zampedri and Mrs Broderick have coordinated the work produced by children from across the school. Waste plastic was used to create a variety of colourful and attractive sea creatures that have been hung from the tree.

   

  The tree is currently on display at the Civic Centre having been awarded first prize.

   

  There is also an informative display in school in the Library corridor that looks at the problems of plastics in the marine environment and explains the process of making this year's tree.

  

• Competition Winners

  This afternoon, children in KS2 came together for a special assembly organised by Saints Academy members, Tim Stevens and Mike Dixon.

   

  Tim and Mike are well known to our children and they were here this afternoon to award the prizes for the school's winners of the Writing Stars Poetry Competition organised by the Premier League Primary Stars. The theme of the competition and the children were asked to write a poem that celebrates diversity.

   

  Tim played a video of the poem 'Beautifully Different; Wonderfully the Same' which was the stimulus for the competition. You can watch this at https://plprimarystars.com/resources/diversity-poetry-competition-ks2#m-resource-1647-link

  Georgia and Alexsandra were the winners, they read their poems and Mike read his. All the finalist poems will be on display in school and the winning two poems will be entered in the National Competition at the Premier League.

  

• Osmington - the final day!

• Day 4 at Osmington...almost time to come home!

  What a busy day it has been. Room inspection marks have improved more and more with the staff being treated to specially prepared room songs!

  We've had many opportunities to test ourselves at height, in teams and in problem solving activities. Tonight we are busy strutting our stuff at the famous PGL disco.

  Many of us are so proud of overcoming our fears and learning new things about ourselves! The photos will prove this so take a look below.

   

  Tomorrow we have our final challenges including the Zip Wire, Aero Ball and the toughest one of all - packing our suitcases! We are looking forward to seeing our families and to lots of sleep at the weekend.

  It has been a fantastic experience for us all.

• Day 3 at Osmington Bay

  Today we had visitors when Mrs Griffiths, Mrs Jones, Mr West and some of Year 6 friends joined us for the day. It was lovely to see them and join in activities together. They enjoyed the food and looking at our accommodation, Some of our friends wished they could stay!

  Today we braved the Abseiling Towers which was a real challenge. We also enjoyed orienteering and a beach walk. 

  Tomorrow it's a mix of The Giant Swing, Archery and Problem Solving...as well as the evening disco.

  

• Day 2 at Osmington Bay

  It's been a beautiful day down here at Osmington, if a little cold at times!

  Up at 6.30am and into a lovely cooked breakfast by 7:30am.

  Room inspections were harsh as Mrs Bloomfield scored the rooms for tidiness and deducted points left, right and centre! We were impressed with some of the room songs that the children have been preparing though.

  Today's activities included a 4-5 mile hike, with ice creams; the dreaded Trapeze; the largest climbing wall we've ever seen and tonight the famous 'Cluedo' experience.

  We've had a tiring day but just enough energy left to wish Lewis a happy birthday!

  Hopefully everyone will sleep well tonight.
