  • Comic Relief / Red Nose Day

    Tue 17 Mar 2015

We had lots of fun to raise money for Red Nose Day by making our faces funny for money. Lots of the children also made donations to throw red paintballs at Mr Harris!

We have donated £255 and a further £400 through the sale of red noses!

    Well done everyone!

  • BIN IT TO WIN IT Winners

    Mon 16 Mar 2015

Children across Southampton were asked by the City Council to design a Character to represent Recycling In Southampton. Around 200 entries from Newlands alone were presented to the judges, and it was so exciting to hear that 2 of our designs in the 8 to 10 age group have been chosen. Evie Flynn's "Monkey" design was the winner and Paige Wing's "Bottle" was chosen as Runner-up. Evie's design was also the Overall Winner of the competition.

Evie and Paige, and their families, were invited to the Presentation Evening on 25th March, (Click to see awards ceremony) which was held in the restaurant area of IKEA, in the presence of the Right Worshipful Mayor of Southampton. We are all very proud of Evie and Paige.

  • Newlands pupils perform at the Nuffield Theatre

    Wed 11 Mar 2015

The Head That Wears a Crown

Pupils from years 5 and 6 performed to a packed Nuffield Theatre on Wednesday 11th March as part of a long term project run by the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC).

Miss Legg and Mrs Bloomfield have been preparing the children for many months and the efforts of children and teachers paid off in a stunning performance in front of a paying audience in a professional theatre.

Newlands was one of only 7 schools in the Southampton area to work with the RSC on a production based on Henry IV and Henry V called “The Head That Wears a Crown”.

Our children put on a stunning performance and received some of the loudest applause at the end of the play. The parents who attended were so proud of their children.

It has been a wonderful opportunity working directly with members of the RSC. Many new skills have been developed. The children have gained so much from the experience and will have this as a memory to reflect on, probably for the rest of their lives.
