  • Year 6 Prom

    Thu 14 Jul 2016

Year 6 returned to school in their fanciest clothes to enjoy their Prom and celebrate the culmination of their Newlands Journey.

The red carpet awaited our VIPs and a buffet and drinks were served.

Towards the end of the evening the children each released a balloon with a message containing a 'best memory' of their time at Newlands.

A few photos can be seen here, but more can be viewed on the Year 6 class page.

  • Year 6 Production

    Tue 12 Jul 2016

Today, Year 6 performed their final show to parents. The performance of 'Robin Hood and the Sherwood Hoodies' gave a new take on the classic story and played through an almost constant stream of puns, jokes and one liners. The children performed with confidence and spoke and sang clearly.

The audience really enjoyed this last chance to see the current Year 6 perform before they move on to secondary schools.

Well done Miss Flagg, Mr Jeffery, Mrs Healey and Miss Parsons for all the preparation.

The staff, children had a fantastic, fun and musical time singing along with CJ Edwards, the Southampton Youth Orchestra and the electric string trio Cordelectra.

This week the activity related to turning rock salt into pure salt.

There were four stages to this process.

    Grinding the rocksalt

Adding this powder to water and stirring so that the salt became dissolved.

    Filtering this solution.

Heating the clear solution to evaporate the water leaving pure salt crystals.

The children had great fun, particularly using the bunson burners in the final stage.

Thre children were a credit to our school and demonstrated a sound scientific knowledge and use to technical vocabulary.
