    Tue 29 Sep 2020

    Walktober 2020

Newlands Primary School are taking part in WALKTOBER, we are trying to encourage as many parents and children to walk to and from school as possible during October.

I know we already have so many families who are active and enjoy walking to school. Hopefully if we can encourage more to join in, we can reduce the number cars outside the school and keep us all Healthy and fit.

    IMPORTANT COVID-19 Updates at Newlands

    Dear Parents & Carers

Thank you all for the amazing support you are giving the Newlands community by following our protective measures when you come to the school site. Drop off and pick up is now going much more smoothly and we thank you for your patience.

FACE COVERINGS FOR ADULTS VISITING OUR SITE FROM MONDAY

Following the recent announcements by the government and the tightening of restrictions to control the virus and keep numbers low in our community, we will be asking that, from Monday, all ADULTS visiting the site wear a face covering for drop off and pick-ups when they come onto our site (unless exempt). This is an extra precaution aiming to protect our entire community, as there are places around the school site where social distancing is more difficult to achieve between parents. We are hoping that all of our parents and carers will want to collectively support this measure. Other local primary schools have also made the same request of their communities.

Guidance from the government states that ‘children in primary schools do not need to wear a face covering. Primary children wearing face covering in schools may inadvertently increase the risks of transmission, as children may be tempted to touch their faces and coverings and would need to be trained properly to put on, remove and safely store face coverings. Face coverings can have a negative impact on learning and teaching and so their use in the classroom should be avoided.’ Our risk assessments show that the many other protective measures that we have in place in primary schools already significantly reduce the risk of transmission. If you choose for your child to wear a face covering whilst walking to school with you, this should be safely removed and taken home with you before coming onto the school site.

A letter from Public Health England to parents and carers of children

Public Health England have produced a letter for schools to distribute to parents which explains when a person requires a coronavirus test and what the symptoms of coronavirus are. The intention of this letter is to help prevent children being taken out of school unnecessarily and answer some of the questions parents may have around testing. The letter is attached to this communication.

Many thanks for your continued support.

  • Back to school Monday 7th September

    Mon 07 Sep 2020

We are looking forward to fully opening the school on Monday 7th September.  In order to safely get the whole school back on site, whilst maintaining required social distancing measures for adults and groups, we will be staggering start and finish times across the school and using allocated gates. Each family has been allocated to a group with a specific time and gate to use (check your emails!). It is very important that timings are adhered to and that parents do not arrive early or late for their drop off/pick up time. We have tried to make it quicker and easier for those with families to drop off the children at the same place, in one group.

Sibling Group A: Drop-off at the Ullswater gate at 8.40am/ Pick up at 2.55pm  This is for: Current Year R and 1 children with all of their older siblings who are in school

Group C: Drop-off at the Ullswater gate at 8.55am/ Pick up at 3.10pm This is for: Current Year R and 1 children with no siblings in school

Sibling Group B: Drop-off at the Windermere gate at 8.40am/ Pick up at 2.55pm. This is for: Current Year 2, 3 & 4 with all of their older siblings who are in school

Group D: Drop-off at the Windermere gate at 8.55am/ Pick up at 3.10pm This is for: Current Year 2, 3,4 & 5 children with no siblings

Staff will meet and greet the younger children near the gates in the mornings and help to walk them to class. Parents will not be allowed on site at the start of the day. Please call or email the school with any urgent messages for staff.

Pickups will be different as parents will enter the grounds from their allocated gate and will need to follow the one way system around the external paths of the school to pick up their children from class areas. Staff will be around to direct and help you. Please be patient and polite. Social distancing with adults must be maintained at all times.

Families will then need to exit via an EXIT gate - either through the bottom Mansel Road Gate or the Windermere Vehicle EXIT.

The school office will not be open for anyone to drop in. You must phone or email to arrange an appointment. There is a postbox to drop off letters or forms.

Brand new year R pupils have stay and play sessions over the next two weeks and start school from 21st September. Separate information has been sent to new starters. Please contact the office if you have not received this!
