  • Photos of Prom and Graduation

    There are DVDs available in the school office for children who were at the Prom and the Graduation Assembly.

    These DVDs contain photos of these two events. Unfortunately they were not ready in time for the end of the school day.

    However, they may be collected free from the school office from Tuesday 3rd September.

    This is in addition to the slideshow and Year 6 production DVD which were given out during the graduation assembly.

     

  • More Goodbyes

    This afternoon, the school met together again to say goodbye.

    This time it was staff leaving - for a variety of reasons.

    Mrs Mackay is starting her maternity leave, we look forward to hearing about the baby in the Autumn term.

    Mrs Ruston, Miss Blaikie, Mrs Buttler and Miss Padfield are all leavingto continue their careers elsewhere.

    Mr Mather is returning to college to train as a teacher.

    Mrs Broderick and Mrs Routhorn are retiring after long and productive careers. Mrs Broderick will still be working in school for special projects however.

    Also, we were able to celebrate Mrs Weeks who is about to get married and Miss Oh and Miss Chestnutt who have completed successful years at Newlands and have completed their NQT year.

     

    There were also celebrations for the Housepoint trophy which this year was won by Virtus (green) with a total of 13218 housepoint over the year.

    A large number of children received badges and certificates for 100% attendance over the year.

  • Year 6 Graduation

    Today, our lovely Year 6 children finally moved on. In a special graduation assembly this morning, the children were individually presented with a certificate and Mrs Mellor spoke about the contribution each child had made.

    Parents, children and staff found this an immensely enjoyable and emotional occasion.

  • Year 6 Prom

    "Don't they scrub up well!" was heard many times as the children prepared to go into the Hall for the Leavers' Prom.

    The children had a wonderful evening with food; dancing; Oscar awards; a photo booth and the burying of a memory box in the school grounds.

     

  • What a Knight

    Year 6 performed their last production to parents today.

    The show entitled 'What a Knight!' was a comedy set in the court of King Arther. This was a wonderful final showcase for our Year 6 children.

     

  • Visit from the Mayor

    Thu 11 Jul 2019

    The Mayor of Southampton visited Newlands today, along with the chair of Southampton in Bloom to present the Gold Cup for 'Best Wildlife Garden'.

     

    We were awarded the best in category after the judges visited earlier in the year. The Mayor had a chance to meet some of the staff and children who had worked so hard to make this special place. The children took great pride in showing him the different features of the garden and describing the things they had seen and done.

  • Year 3/4 Football Cup Award

    Three of our Year 4 pupils attended the Solent Sports Award Ceremony, held this morning at Itchen College. They were representing the Year3/4 football team that won the Testwood Cup earlier this year.

     

     

  • Into Music - Year 4 concert to pupils

    At the end of the Summer Term, Into Music arranged for our two Year 4 classes to perform their ukele and trumpet pieces.

  • Another Year with IntoUniversity

    As we approach the end of the academic year, Newlands has received a report from one of our partners, IntoUniversity.

    this charity has worked with us for a number of years and have supported many children in developing their aspirations.

  • A Winning Wildlife Garden

    Mrs Zampedri, Mrs Newman and Mrs Broderick have directed the staff and pupils into converting the garden in the quiet area into a wonderful wildlife garden.

    Now their efforts have been rewarded by Southampton in Bloom with the top prize for school wildlife gardens. The Mayor will be visiting the school this Thursday to view the garden and award the trophy.

    Last year's garden won the first prize as an Educational Garden, This year we entered the Wildlife Garden category instead.
