  • World Book Day

Thu 10 Mar 2022 Miss Keens

    Curriculum News: World Book Day

Newlands World Book Day was a rousing success as always this year!  A huge thank you to everyone who took part and really helped raise the profile of reading across the school. The children looked fantastic, and there was a real buzz around school as we all had a brilliant day of Reading related fun. We had local author Anne Wan visit us in person and complete workshops with every year group which I know the children and staff all thoroughly enjoyed. She also gave signed copies of her books for the best dressed winners in each class. The staff looked great too!

Thank you for all of your support to make this day a success!

  • Welcome Boxes for Refugees

Mon 07 Mar 2022 Mrs Jones

Some of our Y5 pupils attended a workshop at the John Hansard gallery in Southampton to create Welcome Boxes for refugees arriving in the city. Different schools had collected different items and we contributed the jars of jam and honey that had been donated by the Newlands community. The children selected one of each of the essential different items (coffee, tea, biscuits, toothpaste etc..) to create their Welcome packs. Whilst we were there over 40 Welcome Packs were made by the 8 different schools attending and a further 8 schools would be attending a later session.

Thank you all for the kind donations of honey and jam!
