  • WORLD BOOK WEEK coming soon!

Tue 25 Feb 2020 Mrs Bloomfield

    Dear Parents/Carers,

NEWLANDS BOOK WEEK: Monday 2nd March – Friday 6th March

It is that exciting time of year again when Newlands gets to go reading crazy and celebrate ‘Newlands’ Book Week’. There will be a variety of events taking place across the school to unite the children in a love for reading.

We have a real treat in store for our children this year, as Patrick Ryan who is a famous children’s storyteller, will be visiting us on Monday 2nd March to share a range of stories with the children across the school.

There will be a ‘Book Swap’ on Wednesday 4th March. If your child has some old books (in good condition) at home that they do not need any more, they can exchange them for up to that number of books at our Book Swap. They will be given a voucher for the number of books they can have, depending on how many they have brought in.

Please could they bring their books for swapping into school by Tuesday 3rd March.

The ‘Share a Story’ will take place on Wednesday 4th March – classes will pair up so children across the school can share books together. If your child has a favourite book they would like to bring in to share this day, they are welcome to do so. (Please make sure it has your child’s name on it).

Dressing up day – On Friday 6th March we would like your child to dress up as their favourite book character.  We are hoping to see lots of imaginative ideas and will be giving prizes to the best costume in each year group.  We have chosen Friday because this is the day for our whole school assembly (so we get to see everyone’s costumes J) and we wanted to end the week by dressing up and celebrating.

    ALSO…..

£1 Book Tokens: Your child will receive a free World Book Day token. When you get your token, all you need to do is take it to your local bookseller and swap it for one of the FIFTEEN exclusive, new and completely FREE World Book Day books.

Extreme Reading Competition: This competition is all about reading in extreme or at least very unusual places! All you have to do is take a photo on your smartphone of your child reading and email them in to the school at info@newlandsprimary.co.uk  for our display during Newlands’ World Book Week. The winners will be announced in assembly at the end of the week. Happy snapping!

Overall, it will be an exciting and rewarding week filled with stories, competitions, dressing up and much more wonderful experiences for the children to ignite their love for books.

  • Newlands becomes a real Legacy School

Mon 03 Feb 2020 Mr Harris

We have some very exciting news to share with you. Newlands Primary School is proud to announce that we are now a real legacy school and one of the first in Hampshire.

real legacy allows us to bring the school, home and the community together to enable cultural change. Our journey commenced with real gym and real PE teacher training to support our PE provision to develop the whole child and will extend across the school to include supporting families and the wider school community.

The school will be supported with teacher training, school-based support, fun real play activities for families, enrichment and competitive opportunities and supporting resources from Create Development all through a holistic approach to develop children's physical, personal, social and emotional skills.

Not only are we on a mission to get our children more active by developing the fundamental physical skills that are so often overlooked, our PE lessons are centred around the child to enable them to be successful in the classroom and in later life.

We look forward to keeping you up to date with our journey to create a new ambition for EVERY child.
