  • Sad news about a long serving school governor

Mon 30 Oct 2023 Mrs Mellor

We have to start the half term by sharing some very sad news that one of our long serving governors, Michael Clarke, passed away last week, after a long battle with cancer.

Mike had been a governor at Newlands since autumn 2012 and was a true ‘friend to Newlands’; as well as stepping up to be the Chair of Governors for some years when I first became the Headteacher here. He was a favourite smiling face at many Merit assemblies and school events during that time - infamous for shaking hands with children as they queued up to go in!

I have passed on our condolences on behalf of the school and governors to his family. We are currently thinking about how we can mark his service to Newlands and honour his memory with the children in the long term and will share this information once decided.

  • Y6 sharing more news from PGL at Osmington Bay!

Thu 19 Oct 2023 Mrs Mellor

What fun we having down here! We cannot believe that tomorrow is the last day and we will all be back at home by the end of the school day!

Today we have taken on orienteering, the dreaded Trapeze and Leap of Faith, Giant Swing, Abseiling Towers and more Aeroball.

We even managed to squeeze in a visit to the beach (down hundreds of steps) and enjoyed time exploring the Jurassic Coast and searching for fossils and lucky stones.

We have two more activities to look forward to in the morning and a final chance to test ourselves to the limits and achieve new goals.

    See you all tomorrow.

  • Day 3 at Osmington Bay with Y6!

Wed 18 Oct 2023 Mrs Mellor

After a great night's sleep, another action packed day followed despite the wind and rain! We have achieved great things and we think everyone at school and home would be so proud of us!

Many of us have been scaling great heights again, learning to abseil, mastering archery and even rifle shooting. Sadly our traditional beach walk had to be cancelled this afternoon (due to the poor weather) but we enjoyed an afternoon of learning about geographical features through group research; followed by class circle times. We have so many highlights and proud moments to share already.

    Tonight, it's quiz night!

Have a look at a selection of our photos from today...

  • An update from Y6 at Osmington Bay

Tue 17 Oct 2023 Mrs Mellor

What a start we have had to our adventure...

A safe journey down to Osmington (despite Mrs Bloomfield's singing!) was followed by moving into our chalets. A quick tour of the site our first visit to 'Little Wembley' where we played football and made sand sculptures.

Dinner went down well and everyone ate something (good news parents!). Then a fairly first good night's sleep for all.

Today has been full on with a full breakfast and many activities including: Survivor, Problem Solving, Climbing Wall, Vertical Challenge and Jacob's Ladder.

The children are really making us proud and having a go at things they would never dream of. Here are a few photos of what we have been up to. (Please don't worry if you don't see your child in these, they are just a selection to get you started and we will continue to add photos as the week goes on.)

  • Year 2 Scooter Training Fun!

Fri 06 Oct 2023 Mr Harris

Our Year 2 children had a fantastic experience recently when they joined a Scooter Training Workshop. They all had the chance to improve their scooter and road safety skills whilst enjoying challenges and disco music! They really impressed the team with their focus, determination and scooter safety skills.

    Well done Year 2!
