  • Rights Respecting Schools Award

    Mon 07 Sep 2015
We are delighted to announce that we are working towards becoming a UNICEF Rights Respecting School.
The Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) recognises achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) at the heart of a school’s planning, policies, practice and ethos.

A rights-respecting school not only teaches about children’s rights but also models rights and respect in all its relationships: between teachers / adults and pupils, between adults and between pupils.

It also helps our children understand and appreciate that we are global citizens living in a wider world with different communities and lifestyles.

The rights we have decided to really focus on this year are:

Article 12 - Right to respect the views of the child

Article 24 - Right to be healthy and safe

Article 28 - Right to an education

  • Federation Sports Day RESULT

Wed 15 Jul 2015 Mr Harris

Newlands took part in the annual Federation Sports Event. This year 6 schools and 7 teams competed for the Shield:

    Fairisle A

    Fairisle B

    Redbridge

    Tanners Brook

    Mansel Park

    Oakwood

    Newlands

Newlands worked hard all day with our yr 1/2 team winning many of the different events. Showing we have an excellent group of young sports people coming through Newlands.

Our yr 3/4, and 2 x 5/6 Teams also competed really well and were successful in beating other schools to gain valuable points.

The Sprints at the end saw some nail biting finishes. Catherine from Yr 2 won the girls yr 1/2 Sprint and Skye from yr 6 drew to claim joint 1st in the girls yr 5/6 Sprint.

The final results saw Newlands finish in 2ND only 80 pts behind Oakwood. CONGRATULATIONS to all athletes who competed. It was a great day and a fantastic result.

  • Cinderella Rockerfeller

    Tue 14 Jul 2015

Year 6 are performing their Cinderella play to parents this afternoon. If it is as good as yesterday's dress rehearsal performed to the school, it should be a real treat.

  • French Cafe

    Wed 08 Jul 2015

Today the teachers were served delicious French food, served by the waiters and waitresses of year 6.

As it was a French Café, only French was spoken by the waiters and staff had to brush up their holiday French to request their orders.

Once again, many thanks to Mrs Healey and all the other adults and children who made this annual event such a success.

  • Year 6 travel to Isle of Wight

    Tue 07 Jul 2015

Children from Year 6 had an exciting day visiting the Isle of Wight.

Despite forecasts of heavy rain we wee eating our lunch at Carisbrooke Castle in the blazing sun.

After walking the ramparts and admiring the view from the tower, we made our way to Ryde beach, again we were blessed with blue skies and with the bonus of looking at big storm clouds over the mainland at Portsmouth!

Paddling and beach games were played before returning to school on the late afternoon ferry.

More photos can be seen on the Year 6 class pages.
