Today Mrs Healey took a group of Year 5 children to Redbridge school for a French competition. One of our talented pupils, Elisha, impressed the judges and was awarded an Asterix book in French.

The children gave a weather report in French and then showed a film about learning French at Newlands.

  • Women in Engineering Day

    Thu 18 Jun 2015

As part of Women in Engineering Day, Selex - ES invited 20 of the girls from Year 6 and Year 5 to join them at their factory in Millbrook for an exciting day of engineering challenges.

Selex-ES produce a number of high tech pieces of equipment for defence and other organisations. They have a number of facilities in the UK and employ over 70000 people in this country alone.

After clearing security we were taken to the room where the children were given a number of challenges related to engineering and code cracking.

The code messages were quickly solved and then the girls embarked on the two practical challenges; Building a parachute and container for an egg and after lunch designing and building a balloon powered buggy.

As can be seen from the photos below, our pupils rose well to the challenges provided and came away with a positive impression of engineering as fun and interesting.

Many thanks to Amy and Selex SE for this wonderful opportunity.

  • Yr 5 Sail Away

Thu 04 Jun 2015 Mr Harris

15 lucky year 5s have had the opportunity to experience sailing on the River Itchen. They have kitted up in wet suits, water proof jackets, buoyance aids and helmets and jumped in 2 person sail boats. They have learnt to steer and turn the boats through buoys and around each other. The pupils have loved the experience and have even featured in the echo as part of their article concerning ABP sailing in Southampton.

This week Year 3 have been dining out at a proper French Restaurant; La Parisienne in Romsey.

Over the week, the children from Year 3 have had the opportunity to sample the delights of French Cuisine at this local restaurant. They samplesd traditional items such as croque monsieur, quiche Lorraire, baguette, sandwich jambon and frites.

The restaurant staff spoke to the children in French and the children were able to practice some of the French that they had previously learnt in class.

See more photos on the Year 3 Class page in the 'Children' section.
