Our Year R outdoor area now has a wonderful new canopy to enable outdoor learning in all weathers. Many thanks to the governors for agreeing to fund this for us.
The quad area has also changed over the summer. We have new screening so that Year 1 can develop their outdoor learning space. KS2 children will also be able to use the quad as a quiet area at lunchtimes.
Can you spot our Arts Week projects in the quad?
This morning our lovely Year 6's had their Graduation' They have been a fantastic year group and Mrs Mellor had something personal to say to each pupil as she presented them with their graduation certificate.
Family members attended and there were more than a few tears of pride and sadness about moving on.
You can see the photos in the gallery on the children's pages.
The photos of the graduation, prom and memories video will be sent on when they are copied.
What a week it has been for the teachers and pupils in Year 6. Following on from the Bugsy Malone production and their Prom last night, Year 6 planned and put up a 'pop up French Café in the French meals and drinks.
Staff and pupils all got a good chance to brush up on their French as all orders were taken in this language.
Again, some of the photographs can be viewed on this website in the gallery in the Children's pages.
Last night the children from Year 6 had their leaving prom, the theme was 'Hollywood'. The drumming group performed as they arrived to welcome our graduating pupils.
The children had a red carpet entrance through a tunnel of balloons before meeting up inside for 'cocktails', dancing and food.
Towards the end of the evening, each child released a balloon with a message attached. Obviously last night's thunderstorm did not stop their flight. The school heard of at least one balloon making it to Gloucester!
Why not look at our glamorous Year 6 all dressed up for a ball.
The pictures are in the Gallery on the Children's Pages.
We have all enjoyed the most successful Multi-Cultural Arts Week. The conclusion was an assembly held for the children this afternoon.
There are many, many photographs in the gallery section of this website showing the final assembly and most of the workshops being held.

This week we are all excited because it is Arts Week!
The children will be able to work on workshops all week based on art around the world. Many different cultures and art media will be available to explore. Visitors have been booked to demonstrate their work and groups of children will be able to join in workshops with them. We know that this week will provide many rich and stimulating learning experiences for the children to enjoy.
We will be adding images of the children and their work during the week.
What brilliant weather and sporting fun has taken place this week with our Sports Days. Congratulations to all the winners of the competitive events and to the winning House Teams in KS1 and 2.
Thank you to all of the families who came along to support and enjoy a picnic lunch. Well done to the parents who took part in our javelin competitions!
Have a look at our gallery for even more photos and action shots!
SAM the dog visited Newlands early this morning to meet and greet children who were on time for school. He was very impressed! He also came to assembly to find out which classes were the best attenders this week and also to ask how the whole school is doing with attendance. Our response was: "We are on target with 95.2% SAM!"
SAM will be back on the gate in Ullswater Road next week so look out for him!
Newlands Yr 5/6 Mixed Hockey Team were selected to represent the Southampton area at the Hampshire and IOW School Games.
So on Friday 20th June, the team of 8 pupils (6 boys/2 girls) jumped on the minibus and headed to Aldershot Military Stadium for annual event.
The day started with an opening ceremony. Schools from across Hampshire and the IOW took to the athletics track and were introduced to the crowd.
We then headed over to the Hockey pitches to begin our tournament. There were 16 schools competing for the Hockey trophy, and these were split into 2 leagues. Our first game against Halterworth was an exciting game, however unfortunately we lost 2-0. The pupils rallied around and then produced some of the best Hockey for the rest of the tournament:
Newlands 2 - 0 Otterbourne
Newlands 1 - 0 Abbotswood
Newlands 3 - 0 Bembridge
Newlands 2 - 0 Hiltingbury
The league was close and we were sitting in joint 1st with Halterworth and Hook and Warsash. We performed well against Hook and Warsash in the next game, creating many opportunities, but unfortunately we weren't able to find the back of the net. Hook and Warsash managed to grab a crucial goal near the end, sending down into 3rd place.
Our final game against Botley was crucial as the top 2 from each league went through to the championship play offs. We took on Botley and straight from the start we pushed forwards, moving the ball well and attacking quickly. Botley were a very good team and we had to defend well to stop them from scoring on several occasions. We finally made the break through and hung on for a 1-0 win.
Halterworth and Hook and Warsash also won their last games, meaning they progressed and we narrowly missed out on the playoffs. Finishing 3rd in our league meant we were entered into 1 5th/6th playoff game with Brockenhurst (finished 3rd in the other league).
A very good Brockenhurst team pushed forwards at every opportunity and the game was end to end, goals came quickly. 2 mins to go the score was 2-2 and Brockenhurst were attacking our goal with a break away run. Our defenders made a goal line save and then moved the ball out quickly and we broke away using our speed and control, we moved the ball forwards and managed to slot the ball past the oncoming defender.
Newlands won the game 3-2 and finished 5th out 16th schools, which is an incredible achievement for our first appearance at the Hampshire and IOW school games. The players were excellent ambassadors for Newlands, clapping every player and team, shaking hands and giving 100%.
