  THE BIG PEDAL

  A massive congratulations to all Pupils, Parents, Siblings and Friends who rode or scooted to school over the last 2 weeks. We saw a huge increase in journeys and our bike shed was jammed packed with scooters and bikes of all sizes and colours.

   

  We managed to finish: 317th out of 1056 (primary schs over 150 pupils)

   

  We also finished: 3rd out of 10 (primary schs over 150 pupils in Southampton)

  

• School Games Roadshow

  Another fantastic school games roadshow at Newlands saw Years R, 1 and 6, participate in various different sporting activities to help promote and health and fitness. Southampton Solent University organised and delivered an excellent fun filled day for all pupils.

  

• A visit from Saints player, Calum Chambers!

  Congratulations to Chloe and Tia who were winners in Southampton's Smoke-free parks competition and Jack who was runner-up. The successful children had a special visit today from Saint's player Calum Chambers!

  

• Waste Week

  Dear parents/guardians,

  As part of ECO schools, Newlands is taking part in ‘Waste Week’. This is a week where we think about how much we waste and what we waste. To help promote this, we are going to hold a competition across the school to create a collage with plastic bottle tops next week (17^th March – 21^st March).

  Did you know that recycling saves energy, it takes 75% less energy to make a plastic bottle from recycled plastic compared to using new materials?

  To help encourage children to reuse and recycle, we are asking you to not throw away your plastic bottle tops for a week and to bring into school where the children will be creating a collage that will be judged by the ECO team next Friday!

  Recycling is an important action for Newlands and hopefully, together we can make Newlands a greener place.

• School Games Road Show!

  The children had an amazing day of sports and fitness activities with our visitors from Solent University today. The School Games Road Show was a fantastic success and even the Mayor and a couple of furry friends dropped in to see how things were going.

• Ramp up the Red!
